Dr Lilli Nielsen

The late Dr Lilli Nielsen
During the school break I (Anne) received an email to inform me that Dr Lilli Nielsen passed away on June 24th.  As our community is aware, Dr Nielsen’s professional work has formed the basis for the educational programs offered from this school.  We were fortunate to have Lilli visit our school on a number of occasions, which allowed staff to observe, question, engage and learn under her direct observation.  Lilli is recognised world-wide for her educational work with students with vision impairment and other disabilities and will be missed by many within the educational community.
I would like to share the email I received and my response:
‘Dear friends and colleagues of Dr.Nielsen
It is with sadness we have to inform you that Dr Lilli Nielsen passed away on the 24 June 2013 at the public hospital of Kolding after a short but hectic period of illness.  She was hit by pneumonia and her general condition was worsening over the last week.  She was clear in her mind to the very last, but exhausted and only awake for a few minutes at a time.’
 Yours faithfully,
Christan and Erik Reker. Sons of Lilli Neilsen.
Dear Christan and Erik,
Please accept my deep sympathies on behalf of the Narbethong school community to both of you, and Lilli’s extended family at this terrible time in your lives.  Your mother left an amazing legacy for our school, and her educational philosophy has changed for the better, the lives of our students.  It will be both a privilege and an honour to be able to continue her inspirational work here in Australia and have an active role in ensuring the work is recognised and valued elsewhere.
Kind Regards
