Narbethong special school subscribes to the curriculum of active learning described by the late Dr Lilli Nielsen, developed to allow students to learn independently through their own exploration and play. Form more information see the Philosophy of the active learning approach

However, with the current implementation of the national Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA), we are working hard to show how important active learning really is in meeting the requirements of ACARA for our student population. Credit must be given to past teacher Sheralyn Hastie and current Head of Curriculum (HOC) Annett Wellard for their hard work in working through this process throughout the development and implementation of the early drafts and new curriculum documents over the last two years.

On the following pages you will find information about active learning, why it is important, what equipment we use and how this links to ACARA.
