Lili hammock

The hammock provides another environment at Narbethong for the pushing exercises that promote leg and foot movement and awareness that is a pre-requisite for walking.

The child is placed in the hammock allowing their feet to come in contact with an Essef board. The hammock is tied in such a way that the swing is limited to forwards and backwards movement only, providing the child with maximum feedback from pushing against the Essef board.

Initially the Essef is placed in an oblique position, so that the child’s legs are raised. From this position the child will gradually learn that they are able to move their legs.

Once the child has learned to push they will experience great satisfaction from continuing the action.

Once the student has mastered the esseff board and is choosing to independently kick, other objects may be use to kick against for example a big bass drum.
