Hopsadress

A Narbethong student exploring in the hopsadress

The aim of the Hopsadress is to encourage the child with special needs to move and coordinate movements of the legs and feet. The Hopsadress allows the child to explore with the feet without weight bearing and allows the child to move around and experience sensory stimuli with correctly placed objects.

The living skills benefits of the Hopsadress are:

  • Children can experience the upright position aiding blood circulation and muscle strength.
  • Children are motivated to begin moving their legs.
  • With further experimentation, the child becomes motivated to take steps and to explore weight shift in the upright position.
  • Children can begin to coordinate leg movements with arm and hand movements.
  • The hopsadress can also be used in later developmental stages to aid in weight-bearing, with significant benefits in orientation and mobility.
