Testing and assessment

Active learning

Narbethong's active learning includes regular assessment of students progress through the Functional Assessment Scheme developed by Dr Lilli Nielsen. This assessment forms the basis of all of our teaching at Narbethong.

Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)

In addition to this, we are working hard to implement the new ACARA English draft curriculum for students with disabilities (known as the pre-foundational level for most of our current students). This has posed some challenges, mainly in trying to understand what the curriculum documents terminology means in relation to our students.

As the completed English and Mathematics curriculum comes on line and further curriculums come, we will begin reporting on these curriculums for our students.

Individual Education Plans (IEP's)

At Narbethong we also implement focused individual education plans which run for six months. Our IEP cycles usually runs from the start of term two until the end of term three, with the second cycle running from the start of term four to the end of term one the following year. We value the input of student's parents in formulating goals which will be of value both to the individual student now and into the future. Our goal is to provide meaningful activities which will help student's develop their maximum potential throughout their schooling life. WE recognise the importance of parental involvement in this process in reinforcing the programs we implement at school. Many of the teachers have noticed that the more frequently programs are reinforced between home and school the better the long term outcome for the students.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy)

In 2012, there were no students who were required to take the NAPLAN tests which means that Narbethong does not have any comparative NAPLAN data. We look forward to increasing the number of academic students which would necessitate the need for them to participate in the NAPLAN tests.

For more information about NAPLAN, please see either the NAPLAN website or the Education Queensland website about NAPLANs.
