Maps and transport

Due to the specialised eligibility of students at Narbethong, the school draws students from all over the greater Brisbane region.

Due to this, the provision of transport of students to school can be approved under certain circumstances. However it remains the parents responsibility to ensure that their child attends a school program.

Education Queensland provides school transport assistance for students with disabilities where it has been identified that due to the nature of the student's disability and the family's circumstances support is required to travel between home and school. The focus of the School Transport Assistance Program is to assist parents rather than to remove their individual responsibility for school transport arrangements.

The eligibility criteria and process for applying for school transport assistance are outlined in the following Education Queensland policy:

School Transport Assistance Programs for Students with Disabilities

Currently two of our staff are trained as Transport Assessors, which requires them to collect information, complete necessary paperwork and have these signed by all parties involved.  These applications then go to Regional Office for approval and onto the Transport Department.  Our staff are able to document extreme circumstances or hardship within the applications but do not have the authority to approve transport under any circumstance.

If your child does meet the criteria for transport assistance, parents or carers are required to inform their transport drivers if their child is not requiring transport on a particular day.  Please ensure you have current mobile contact numbers for your driver and their assistant.  A reminder that any/all changes to the transport application takes 7-10 working days and we ask parents to let us know of any changes as soon as possible so we can limit the disruption to this service.  If your child is not attending school for 5 consecutive days or longer we need to be informed as the transport needs to be temporarily stopped.

For students catching council or private buses, they are expected to abide by the code of conduct for school students travelling on buses.
