Narbethong special school subscribes to the methodology of active learning described by the late Dr Lilli Nielsen, developed to allow students to learn independently through their own exploration and play. For more information see the Philosophy of the active learning approach.

With the current implementation of the national Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA), we are working hard to show how important active learning really is in meeting the requirements of ACARA for our student population. Find more information about the Australian Curriculum on the "Parents" page of the Australian Curriculum website.

At Narbethong the continued focus of curriculum implementation is authentic delivery for students with a vision impairment and multiple disabilities. Literacy and numeracy major focus is on the general capabilities. All students have an ICP (Individual Curriculum Plan), an ILP (Individual Learning Plan) and for most an individual Health Plan.

On the following pages you will find information about active learning, why it is important, what equipment we use and how this links to ACARA.
