Narbethong is a small, unique school which provides specialist teaching for students with vision impairment. We are located in Woolloongabba, Brisbane. There is no catchment area. Students attend from areas such as Wakerley, Wynnum, Murarrie, Cleveland, Wellington Point, Alexandra Hills, Mt Gravatt, Sunnybank, Rochedale, Springfield, Oxley, Boronia Heights, Mansfield, Strathpine, Carseldine, Caboolture, Acacia Ridge and Runcorn. Many families have moved intrastate so their child has the opportunity to attend the school.

Eleven of our teaching staff have specific university qualifications in teaching vision impairment. Other teachers have gained thorough understanding through guidance and professional development over their years of working at the school. Narbethong caters for students from birth with our Early Childhood Development Programs. Students from Prep to Year 12 in our school-age programs are also diagnosed with an intellectual impairment. They may require adjustments for autism and/or hearing and physical impairments.

Also based on site at Narbethong is the State-wide Vision Impairment Services team including The Alternative Format Library (AFL) and Education Low Vision Assessment Centre (ELVAC).

Our school of excellence takes great pride in showcasing prebraille teaching, braille with students with additional impairments, deaf/blind programs and auditory scanning for students with significant vision impairments.

We are extremely proud of our achievements with students.

Kerry Tait - Principal
