Computers and internet

Due to the diverse student needs at Narbethong, we use a variety of technology hardware and software to best cater for the individual learning needs of the students.

Depending on the needs of the students our technology includes:

  • Touchscreen computer
  • Switch adapted toys depending on individual student interests
  • Multiple types of switches, ranging from sensor switches picking up the smallest movement, to robust switches for big strong students
  • Voice output devices to allow our students to carry messages, even if they themselves are non-verbal
  • Adapted keyboards to allow regular typing for students with low vision
  • MVDA - software for computer use by students who are totally blind (they don't use computer screens) but are capable of accessing regular computer content and typing skills
  • iPads - for multiple uses from initiating cause and effect games, through to accessing the internet

All of our programs are designed to cater to individual student needs under consultation with Education Queensland or private therapists such as speech language pathologists or occupational therapists.

For specific information about how technology is used for your child, please contact your class teacher, as we love there to be consistent activities being completed both at home and at school to ensure the students have the best opportunity to learn to use these technologies effectively.
